ARISE Weather Model Specifications

WRF 3.5.1 with OSU BPRC polar modifications (Polar WRF)

  • 280 x 310 one-domain grid with 8 km spacing
  • 53 layers: Lowest levels at 8 and 24 m; top at 10 hPa
  • 45-sec time step; run with 20 tasks; 30-hr runs; output every 3 hr
  • Morrison 2-moment microphysics
  • RRTMG longwave and shortwave radiation
  • Kain-Fritsch cumulus parameterization
  • MYNN2 Planetary boundary layer and surface boundary layer
  • Noah Land surface model
  • Fractional sea ice 1.5 m thick; albedo 0.8; 5 cm snow on sea ice

The model starts twice a day at 00 & 12 UTC as its initial times. The initial and boundary conditions are interpolated from the daily 00 and 12 UTC run of the Global Forecast System (GFS) issued by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).
